Arun Viswanathan

Arun a.k.a goes by the name owing to his immense energy with the drumsticks in his hand. Starting with a pair of combs as drumsticks and an old Philips tape recorder as his drums, he's come a long way from his first composition in his fifth grade ro becoming the lead drummer for Aavakai.

Trained under the aegis of 'Drummer Gopal', he played in many rock shows since a very young age. Right from starting a band called 'Untamed' during his stint at Carnegie Mellon University to managing a Tamil band called 'Sahana' in the Bay area, he has proven his talent and, commitment to music and drumming.

Arun is equally talented in mimicry and rejuvenates Aavakaiites after our long rehearsal session, by imitating Thalaivar, Kamal Hassan or any actor on request. It is not surprising that he is in high demand across bay area for mimicry and MC-ing.

Krishna Tangirala

Known for his good ear for music and attention to detail, Aavakaiites teasingly refer to Krishna as Bassix - the bass guitarist who sets the basics right. Hailing from a musically rich family, Krishna is versatile with many instruments like Bass guitar, keyboards, Tabla and Dappu. He enjoys playing the bass guitar the most for it is one of the few instruments that fetch both melopdy and rythm at the same time.

Krishna learned Tabla in Secunderabad Music College in India and continued his music education under the able guidances of Mr. Gabe Halberg in Burlington, Mr. Russ Hodges and Mr. Ravi Gutala in San Jose. He enjoys listening to any music that's different in its own way  and particularly admires Ilayaraja, A.R.Rahman and Carnatic music. He says 'the cryptic melodic and bass patterns in Ilayaraja's music constanty urge me to learn more and more'.

Before joining Aavakai, he played for another band called 'Desibels' in Salt Lake City, where he played the Bass, Tabla and Keyboard besides singing. Krishna aspires to compose at least one music album in the near future. Inspired by Mandlin Srinivas, he would like tolearn and play the Mandolin someday.

Btw, his expression in the picture here is one of his rarest.
